Snow Removal Update for Tuesday, December 29, 2020, 5:30 a.m.

City operations: Twenty City material spreaders remain on patrol plowing arterial streets and applying granular salt as needed. Forty additional contractor plows have been activated. The sixty units will create twenty arterial plow teams.

National Weather Service: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Street conditions: Arterial streets are snow covered with slush underneath. Winter driving conditions are in effect. Drivers should be on alert for slick spots, hidden hazards, and windrows of snow during plowing operations. Give plow teams room to work as they clear from the middle of the street out to the curbs and navigate turn lanes.

Snow Removal Update for Wednesday, December 23, 2020, 9:25 p.m.

City operations:  Forty City crews have completed plowing 65 percent of arterial streets and bus routes and are expected to finish plowing around midnight. Twenty City crews will remain on patrol overnight monitoring conditions and applying granular salt pre-wet with brine as needed.

National Weather Service: The Winter Storm Warning ended at 9 p.m.

Weather conditions: Light snow with strong winds

Street conditions: Arterial streets are partially snow covered. Drivers should be alert for slick spots and refrozen areas.

Snow Removal Update for Saturday, December 12, 2020, 8:10 a.m.

City operations:  Twenty City crews continue plowing and applying granular salt pre-wet with brine on arterial streets and bridges. Routes have been covered multiple times during the storm and crews will remain on duty through the morning cleaning up remaining trouble spots.

National Weather Service: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon today.

Weather conditions: Overcast

Street conditions: Arterial streets are wet with slush. Streets are expected to dry this afternoon as pavement temperatures reach the low 40s. Drivers should be alert for slick spots on untreated areas.

Snow Removal Update for Monday, October 26, 2020, 11:10 a.m.

City operations:  20 City crews continue to patrol arterial streets, bus and school routes plowing and applying granular salt pre-wet with brine as needed.

Weather conditions: Flurries possible through noon today.

Street conditions: Arterial streets range from wet to snow packed. Residential streets range from slush covered to snow packed. Drivers should be alert for slick spots, especially on untreated areas.

Snow Removal Update for Monday, October 26, 2020, 4:55 a.m.

City operations:  49 City crews are plowing and applying granular salt pre-wet with brine to arterial streets, bus and school routes.

National Weather Service: Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from until 7 a.m. today. 

Weather conditions: Snowing with additional accumulation of less than one half inch possible.

Street conditions: Arterial streets range from areas of slush to snow covered. Residential streets are snow covered.  Drivers should be alert for slick spots, especially on untreated areas.

Snow Removal Update for Friday, January 24, 2020, 11:50 a.m.

Twenty-one City crews continue to plow and apply granular salt pre-wet with brine to arterial streets. Additional crews are responding to residential service requests. Crews report arterial streets being wet with isolated areas of slush. Residential streets are snow-packed with ice from overnight freezing. Drivers should be alert for slick spots, especially in untreated areas.

Following 80 hours of continuous service, Traffic Management will suspend winter operations at 4 p.m. to provide staff adequate recovery time.  Street conditions will be monitored.

The public is reminded that it is illegal to push or blow snow into or on any street, alley or sidewalk. Violators are subject to a fine. Residents are encouraged to clear snow from fire hydrants.

City ordinance requires property owners to clear snow and ice from sidewalks by 9 a.m. the day following the end of the snowstorm. Sidewalks must be kept clear of snow and ice during the day. The entire width of the walk must be cleared, along with any adjoining wheelchair ramps or curb cuts. To report locations not cleared, residents are urged to use the free UPLNK app available at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: uplnk).  For more information, contact the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities sidewalk office at 402-441-7541.

If a property owner does not clear the walk and a complaint is received by the City sidewalk office, notice will be given to the owner. City ordinance requires written notice to be left on the front door or other conspicuous place on the property. If an unresolved problem is reported again, the City may hire a snow removal contractor, and the owner is responsible for the charges.

Traffic Management will monitor street conditions and continue patrols overnight.  Crews report arterial street conditions ranging from slush to snow-covered.  Residential streets are slush and snow-packed.  Drivers should be alert for refrozen areas.

Snow Removal Update for Thursday, January 23, 2020, 4:45 a.m.

Fifty City and contractor crews are patrolling arterial routes and continuing residential plowing, which is about 95 percent complete. Crews report arterial streets being wet with some slush and near normal driving conditions.  Residential streets are slush-covered and snow packed.  Drivers should be alert for black ice and slick spots, especially in untreated areas.

A National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. tonight.  Snow accumulation up to three inches is possible.

Residential plowing is about 50 percent complete.  Eighty-six City and contractor crews will continue snow removal operations overnight.  Crews report arterial streets being wet with some slush and near normal driving conditions.  Residential streets are slush-covered and snow packed.  Drivers should be alert for black ice and slick spots, especially in untreated areas.
