More than 85 plow crews are now clearing arterial streets, bus and school routes and applying granular salt pre-wet with brine as needed. Crews report snow-packed street conditions. Drivers should be alert for black ice and slick spots, especially in untreated areas.

Street Condition Update for Friday, January 17, 2020, 4:30 a.m.

Twenty crews are on patrol applying granular salt pre-wet with brine as needed to arterial, bus and school routes.  Crews report streets are mostly dry with wet areas and normal driving conditions.  Winter driving conditions are expected to develop prior to the morning commute.

The National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.  Mixed precipitation with snow accumulation of one to three inches, freezing drizzle, and gusty winds are predicted.  Drivers should watch for isolated slick spots as the snow increases, especially on untreated streets.

Street Condition Update for Wednesday, January 15, 2020, 5:30 p.m.

With freezing rain and snow predicted to begin tomorrow evening, fifteen crews will pretreat arterial streets and bus routes with anti-ice brine tonight.  This application will be completed before the morning commute.  Crews will continue to monitor conditions as the forecast is updated.

With the overnight forecast calling for frost, the City has four crews – one in each quadrant –  monitoring roads and treating bridges and intersections as needed.  An additional 16 crews are on standby to prepare for a safe morning commute.

At 4 p.m., 20 City crews will begin applying granular salt pre-wet with brine to arterial streets, school and bus routes.  Traffic Management will monitor weather conditions and crews will remain on patrol overnight.  Drivers should be alert for black ice and slick spots, especially on untreated areas.

A National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 p.m tonight.  Freezing drizzle and snow accumulation up to a quarter inch are possible.

Street Condition Update for Saturday, January 11, 2020, 8:15 a.m.

Twenty City crews continue to apply granular salt pre-wet with brine on arterial streets and bridges as needed.  Material spreading operations will cease at 9 a.m. today.  Crews report most arterial streets being wet with some areas beginning to dry.  Drivers should be alert for refrozen areas and black ice, especially in untreated areas.
